Acupuncture involves the insertion of extremely thin, single use needles through your skin at strategic points on your body. A key component of Traditional Chinese medicine, acupuncture is most commonly used to treat pain. Traditional Chinese medicine explains acupuncture as a technique for balancing the flow of energy or life force – known as qi or chi (CHEE) – believed to flow through pathways (meridians) in your body. By inserting needles into specific points along these meridians, acupuncture practitioners believe that your energy flow will re-balance. In contrast, many Western practitioners view the acupuncture points as places to stimulate nerves, muscles and connective tissue. This stimulation appears to boost the activity of your body’s natural painkillers and increase blood flow.
Your Acupuncture treatment may involve the following if you would like it:
Cupping: Cupping is done by applying glass cups along the body to break up adhesions, relive pain and tension, and increase blood flow to the tissues.
Gua Sha: This technique uses a scrapping tool against the skin to increase blood flow and reduce pain.
Soft Tissue Manipulation: We utilize modalities in both active release technique and massage components to allow for muscle relaxation and mobility.
Herbal Remedies: These remedies are available for sale in our retail area and are very potent. These items are not about to be sold except through a licensed acupuncturist.
