The process of application for VA benefits can be extremely tiring, so here’s a useful instruction list to help you get through the process quicker and easier. Read on to find out more about VA benefits eligibility, how to apply, and does VA benefits cover chiropractic care.

Compensation in case of disability

Applying for disability compensation is a fast and straightforward process if you do it online, on the eBenefits website. The website will offer several steps and instructions on how to apply. The online option is also available if applying for Veterans Choice plan.

For the veterans who prefer standard applications to online ones, there is another option. Downloading, filling in, and sending paper VA Form 21P-526EZ application to the US Department of Veteran Affairs could be a good solution.

Employment aid and occupational recovery

Once more, the eBenefits website is the best way to go. Create your account, and select “Additional Benefit” from the Dashboard after logging in. You should see an option you should check, “Vocational Rehabilitation and Employment Program”. If everything goes well, you will be summoned for an orientation session that is conducted in person.

Benefits for surviving spouses and dependents

Before filling in the VA Form 21P-53EZ and mailing it to your state’s Pension Management Center, you must collect evidence of eligibility for this benefit. This means that, as a surviving spouse or a dependent relative, you will need to prove that the veteran died on duty, from a disease or trauma sustained as a result of the service, or they were getting VA compensation for total disability.

Veteran pension

You can easily apply for this veteran benefit if you meet any of the following criteria:

  • – You are a veteran over the age of 65, and with limited income;
  • – You are a veteran with no income;
  • – You are a permanently disabled veteran;
  • – You are a veteran who receives care in a nursing home, or the government pays for your     Social Security Disability Insurance.

Mailing the filled-in VA Form 21P-527EZ to the Pension Management Center, or turning it in person, completes the application process.

Survivors Pension can be filed for by family members. Complete the VA Form 21P-534EZ, and forward it to your state’s PMC.

Applying for home loans

The government offers several different programs to aid veterans and their families in terms of giving loans for purchases and home reconstructions: Purchase loans, Cash-Out loans, Adapted Housing Grants, the Interest Rate Reduction Refinance loan, and Native American Reduction Refinance loan.

The VA loan eligibility is determined in the light of: the length and commitment of duty, character and duty status. VA Form 26-1880 should be filled in and processed through the eBenefits website, or sent via mail, addressed to the Regional Loan Center. In case of a survivor’s loan, the process is the same, but the form required is the VA Form 26-1817.
